Barcelona's transfer ban upheld...

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Tuesday backed a one year transfer ban against Barcelona in a major blow to the Spanish football giants.

First case of Ebola recorded in Scotland....

The first case of Ebola virus has been recorded in Scotland. According to the Scottish government, the Ebola patient is a health worker who arrived Scotland from Sierra Leone today December 29th where she was helping to care for Ebola victims.

She arrived Glasgow in Scotland from London Heatthrow airport on a British Airways flight. All passengers on-board the flight are now being traced for examination. Meanwhile the woman has been quarantined at the Gartnavel hospital.

Mikel Obi reportedly building estate in Lagos called Chelsea Estate.

There are reports by people in the know that Chelsea and Super Eagles midfielder, Mikel Obi is building a mini estate in the Ajah/Badore new development area of Lagos. Mikel and his partners (including a bank) are planning to build over 100 housing units of 2/3/4bedroom service apartments, a multipurpose hall and recreational facilities. The estate will be called Chelsea Estate and construction has already begun.

It was a bloody yuletide celebration at Lessel town, in local government area of Benue State, where a clash between the police and irate youths led to the shooting of five youths with one confirmed dead while four others are said be in critical condition at a public hospital.  This is just as a suspected rival cult clash in Agbouhogh village, in the outskirt of Makurdi town left no fewer than 15 persons with serious injuries.  Though the reason for the bloody clash was not yet clear at the time of this report, the injured and some of the suspects were reported to have been apprehended and taken to the ‘D Division’ of the Makurdi Area Command of the police from where some of them were taken for medical attention.  Meantime, it was gathered from an eyewitness that the yuletide mayhem at Lessel started at about noon when over 2,000 youths from across Ushongo converged for a procession to the popular Ushongo Hills for their annual Christmas picnic.  “They were prevented from moving into the hills by the Police who were allegedly directed by the District Head of Mbayegh, Chief Nathaniel Hoyough, to prevent the picnic from taking place in his domain where the hill is located,”the eye witness said.

Our country once mighty have fallen  and is falling.  The decay is systemic and deep-seated and widespread .  Our political system is heavily  infected by corruption and the educational system is strangulated by poor funding. But our education suffers from much more.

One of the biggest misconceptions of the world, in my opinion, is the view held by some that members of the clergy should not participate in politics or government.

I have read The Holy Bible and The Quran and to the best of my knowledge, nowhere in both books is such a notion promoted.

As a matter of fact, the first usage of the word ‘government’ comes from The Holy Bible and the United States of America lifted the word ‘President’ directly from The Bible book of Daniel (chapter 6 verse 3).

Some of the greatest figures in The Bible were prophets and political leaders at the same time. Joseph was Prime Minister of Egypt and political ruler of the then known world but he was also described as a prophet and diviner of God’s will.

Daniel was appointed President of Babylon by King Darius yet he continued to function in office as a judge and prophet.

Female sex worker, two men burnt to death...

Three persons including a female sex worker and her clients were Thursday midnight burnt to death as a mysterious fire razed a popular commercial sex spot near Orhowhurun Roundabout, Udu local government area, Delta state.  Properties worth millions of naira were also reportedly lost to the inferno which also gutted adjoining trading shops and residential buildings.

Former head of state, Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said he will not have an office for first lady if he is elected into power in the forthcoming 2015 elections.

Giving his reason, Buhari said there is no office of first lady in the Nigerian constitution and there is no official role for presidents’ wives.

He disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Weekly Trust in Kaduna.According to him, there are ministries which are constitutional like the Ministry of Women Affairs and they should be allowed to play their roles.

He added that women would however play an important role in his administration as he knows what they can do if given the opportunity.

“I was raised by my mother, as I lost my father when I was under six years, so I know what a woman can do if given the chance,” Buhari said.

He explained that he had the greatest respect for women.

Chinese city bans Christmas festivities in favour of national traditions...

Students in one east China city won't be participating in any Christmas activities this year. According to a statement released by education authority officials in the Zhejiang Province town of Wenzhou, "no middle school, primary school or kindergarten may hold any Christmas-themed activity or celebration".
State-run Xinhua news agency reports the purpose of the edict is not to crack down on all Western celebrations, but instead, to highlight traditions native to Chinese culture such as the Lantern Festival and Lunar New Year.
Despite such bans, however, the Christmas season remains a significant time of year for many Chinese citizens throughout the country. Although officially atheist, China is currently on track to become the largest Christian nation in the world. Fenggang Yang, a sociology professor at Purdue University, predicts China's Christian population to reach 247 million by 2030.
The season is also profitable for many businesses. The Yiwu Christmas Products Industry Association estimates that its 600 member-factories produce nearly 60 per cent of the world's Christmas-themed goods.
