Hoodlums
over the weekend reportedly invaded a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC),
Pillar of Fire parish in Akure, Ondo state during service, beating the
presiding pastor identified as Pastor Arije and some members of the
church.
The
hoodlums who reportedly stormed the church on motorcycles, were also
said to have destroyed some other items inside the church which include,
plastic chairs, wall clock, window glass and electrical appliances
among others after the members had run away for safety.
According
to reports, the police in the state arrested some of the hoodlums but
they were later rescued by a mob, during which a policeman was stabbed
with broken bottle on the neck.
Police
sources said they were still investigating the incident, but our
correspondent learned that a rival Pastor of one of the churches within
the area might have sponsored the attack.
Confirming
the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Wole
Ogodo, said details of the incident was still sketchy since the
incident happened over the weekend.
The PPRO also said the command was still investigating the reason for the action of the hoodlums.
